We have three fully operational NICU's which were divided into three different categories dealing with Inborn babies, Out born babies and an exclusive Septic/ Isolation NICU for very sick babies.
We are the first in the region to start Therapeutic Hypothermia for the treatment of babies with Birth asphyxia/Stage 2 HIE.
Each baby admitted will be under the care of a consultant Neonatologist. Twice a day rounds will be done by Neonatologists on every day including Sundays and public holidays. Doctors are available 24 hours a day.

All the parents including soon to be parents were involved in sharing the day to day progress and were motivated to take active participation in giving care to the newborn. We encourage mother to give KMC as early as possible and fathers are welcome to give KFC, so that the emotional bonding is developed. Dedicated hours in a day were reserved where soft music is played with dimmed light and minimal intervention to the baby so that babies can relax and in turn helps in better neurodevelopment.
Our aim is to prepare the parents, especially mother to be confident in handling the babies which will help in smooth transition of shifting babies to step down NICU. We encourage parents to clear any doubts they have and will trained in giving BLS/ Emergency care before being discharged to home.

The aim of giving this latest treatment is to reduce the adverse neurological effects of babies with Birth asphyxia and Convulsions ( Stage 2 HIE ). This is the only modality till date with proven neurological benefit in stage 2 HIE patients.
Our NICU has two servo-controlled machine with a water-filled cooling blanket where we keep the baby for monitoring. The body temperature of the baby is reduced to 92 degrees Fahrenheit (33.5 degrees Celsius) and maintained for three days following which baby is gradually re warmed. Throughout the process seizure activity will be recorded in CFM monitoring.
Newborn screening tests are universally recommended and basically its aim is to look for developmental, genetic, and metabolic disorders in the newborn baby. These disorders affect the metabolism of proteins, carbohydrates and fat which are very essential for the normal growth and development of the baby. Although most of these illnesses are rare but can be treated if detected early as these illnesses can be life threatening.
